Kazakhstan’s model of interethnic and interreligious harmony discussed in New York

NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM - Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United States and the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding (FFEU) hold a round table at the New York City Hall dedicated to the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Kazinform has learned from the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

Edward Mermelstein, Commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, Mark Schneier, President of FFEU, Yeshaya Cohen, Chief Rabbi of Kazakhstan, representatives of SAMK and Bakhai, as well as non-governmental organizations from Kazakhstan and United States attended the event.

Commissioner Mermelstein noted in his speech that for a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional city like New York, Kazakhstan's model of interethnic and interreligious harmony is of practical interest. In the given context the work of Congress was especially emphasized as a universal platform for alignment of dialogue between representatives of various confessions.

The President of FFEU Schneier talked about the warm, trustful cooperation with Kazakhstan, and about the presence of commonalities, rather than differences, between the religions represented by the participants of the round table. At the same time, representatives of religious associations educated the American partners about their daily activity and tasks of their organizations.

Kazakhstan's model of interethnic and interreligious harmony, as well as exceptional activity of the Congress in promoting religious freedom by building trustful dialogue between representatives of religious associations was also discussed during the event.

Besides presentation of the forthcoming VII Congress in Kazakhstan took place, during which Bulat Sarsenbayev, the Chairman of the Board of Nazarbayev Center on Development of Interconfessional and Intercivilization Dialogue, shared the expectations for the forthcoming Congress and acquainted the participants with the work of the Center. Aza Karam, Secretary General of «Religions for Peace» NGO reiterating her participation in the upcoming event and noted the uniqueness of the platform and readiness for further cooperation with the Kazakhstan.

Missing 5-year-old girl in Kostanay region found dead

KOSTANAY. KAZINFORM Body of the 5-year-old girl, who went missing in Kostanay region, has been found, Kazinform reports.

«The girl drowned. Details will be provided later,» police department says.

The girl left home on August 7, at around 5:00 am. Over 500 policemen, a helicopter, a crop duster, a trike as well as servicemen of the National Guard and Border-Guard Services immediately joined the search operation.

Thousands of locals have searched for the girl in nearby areas since Sunday.

On August 9, it was decided to leave balloons with water bottles and snacks tied to them on different sides of the cornfields.

Over 198,000 children born in Kazakhstan in H1 2022

NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM The National Statistics Bureau of the Kazakh Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms shared information on the country’s demographic situation in January-June 2022, Kazinform reports.

As of July 1, 2022, the population of Kazakhstan has reached 19,246,300.

Of them, 11,479,600 or 59.6% live in urban areas, and 7,766,700 or 40.4% are rural population.

The country’s population climbed up by 236,700 people or 1.2% compared to July 1, 2021. Natural increase of the population in H1 2022 lowered by 7.7% and made 128,900 people against 139,700 in H1 2021. The rate of natural increase made 13.51 per 1,000 people.

198,100 children were born countrywide in January-June 2022, which is 8.4% less than in the same period in 2021 (216,200). Crude birth rate made 20.76 per 1,000 people.

The number of deaths in the reporting period made 69,200 that is 9.6% less than in H1 2021 (76,600). Crude mortality rate made 7.25 deaths per 1,000 people.

1,649 infants died across the country in H1 2022, which is 2.3% less than in the same period in 2021 (1,688). Infant mortality rate in the reporting period was 8.32 deaths per 1,000 live births.

President Tokayev instructs to enhance Anti-Corruption Service activity

NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received today Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency Olzhas Bektenov, Akorda press service informs.

The President was briefed on the measures taken to tackle corruption in the country. In particular, in 7 months of 2022, over 1,400 corruption-related crimes were registered countrywide. More than 900 people were accused of corruption.

The Head of State was also informed about the steps aimed at preventing corruption-related crimes.

According to Olzhas Bektenov, an external analysis was carried out in transport control sector, in socio-entrepreneurial corporations, as well as in the State Defense Order Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development. Corruption risks were identified at all the stages of state defense order compilation, beginning from the planning the volumes of production and ending with fulfillment of contractual obligations.

In compliance with the President’s instructions, the Agency has fully revised the approaches to the evaluation of the activity of the Anti-Corruption Service divisions.

Upon completion of the meeting, the President set a number of tasks on enhancing the activity of the Anti-Corruption Service.
